Abstract: Jim will talk about lessons learned adding Linux support to Protocol-SIFT, a package that Rob Lee released at the SANS AI Summit in April. AI can absolutely speed up analysis, but it leaves us to deal with hallucinations (false positive), missed evidence (false negatives), and the non-determinism that as a forensicator can be an issue.
About the author: Jim Clausing has been working with Unix and Linux systems since 1983 and responding to security incidents on them for more than three decades as an incident responder, forensicator, and malware analyst. He is a SANS Principal Instructor teaching FOR610: Malware Analysis and FOR577: Linux Incident Response and Threat Hunting, He has 3 grown children and lives in suburban Columbus, OH with his wife of 32 years and their 8 (at present) cats. He is an instrument-rated private pilot and a (lapsed) recumbent cyclist.
